More about me
I'm Katya Aleksic — a primary school teacher with ten years of experience supporting children and families. Now, a trained psychotherapeutic counsellor and hypnotherapist, committed to helping people through life’s challenges and prioritising their mental health and wellbeing. I trained for three years, whilst full-time teaching and have also spent the last two years counselling children, within a school based setting.
I started teaching because I wanted to help give children the tools to manage their emotions, something that isn’t taught enough in schools, and prepare them as much I could for the real world. Unfortunately, due to the demands and pressure of the job, it’s not always possible to focus solely on these things. This goes against my ethos as an educator and human being, so I began my training in counselling. I shortly decided this was something I wanted to pursue full-time. The importance of people’s wellbeing and mental health is what drew to me to this career. My passion has always been in understanding and helping others and counselling allows me to offer a space where I can wholly focus on that. And I now have the qualifications, experience and still, incredibly strong desire to provide people with the space to focus on looking after their mental health and wellbeing.
This has led me to create Counselling with Katya. Somewhere that I can provide individuals with the space to feel heard, understood, and empowered. A space to bring clarity to situations in your life, or a space that helps you gain a greater understanding of yourself; from the way you think to how you behave. Or a space to simply be your true self, with absolute no judgement. And I aim to use a variety of talk therapies to explore all of this with authentic compassion, kindness, and openness.
I am trained in three styles of talk therapy, which I can offer to you — psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) — I will tailor my approach to suit your individual needs and goals, through one single style of therapy or a combination. Whether you're looking to explore deeper patterns, focus on the present moment, or develop practical tools for change, we can work together in a way that feels right for you.
